The region’s peak business organisation, Business Illawarra, has congratulated the business community of Berrima, and of the wider Southern Highlands, for the town’s success in winning Gold at the inaugural 2021 Australian Top Tourism Town Awards.
Berrima’s Gold Medal for the Small Tourism Town (population under 5000) was announced today by the Hon Dan Tehan MP, Minister for Trade, Tourism, and Investment.
In these coveted awards, tourism towns from across Australia competed for the honour of being named Australia’s Top Tourism Town.
Local Chambers of Commerce, Tourism Associations, Councils and Visitor Information Centres across the state have worked together to showcase their towns as a tourism destination worth celebrating.
“It’s a testament to the resilience of the business people of Berrima, that have borne the impact of travel restrictions and border closures, to want to celebrate what they offer to visitors and to showcase their town so successfully on this big stage,” said Business Illawarra Executive Director Adam Zarth.
“We all know what an important role the visitor economy plays in the social and economic fabric of the Southern Highlands community, and our strong local chambers of commerce do so much to bring it all together in concert with other key groups and government.”
“I understand the process was highly competitive with inspiring editorial, images and video content accompanied by a compelling three-to-four day itinerary essential to be a Top Tourism Town winner”.
“Berrima has a tremendous offering for visitors, and we knew they would be competitive. This is a great result and recognition of the enormous work done by Berrima to attract visitors, all in support of their local businesses and economies, and today is the acknowledgement and reward of that work.”
“This award along with the easing of restrictions and the release of our state’s ‘Feel New’ destination marketing campaign, show that confidence is returning to the NSW visitor economy,” Mr Zarth said
