COUNTDOWN TO A CLEAN ENERGY FUTURE: BUSINESS ILLAWARRA SET TO UNVEIL THE TRANSFORMATIONAL CLEAN ENERGY ROAD MAP
The Illawarra Shoalhaven region is poised for a historic transformation, with the potential to become Australia’s premier clean energy hub.
On 9 July 2025, Business Illawarra will unveil the Illawarra Clean Energy Roadmap—a strategic blueprint that positions the region as Australia’s leading clean energy hub.
This landmark initiative will showcase how Illawarra can lead the charge in offshore wind, green hydrogen, and advanced manufacturing, leveraging its industrial legacy, Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) status, and world-class port and logistics infrastructure.
Commissioned by Business Illawarra and developed in partnership with the University of Wollongong, the roadmap identifies key challenges and opportunities for regional transformation. It offers a clear path for governments, investors, and industry to unlock billions in investment, create thousands of jobs, and secure long-term energy security and prosperity for New South Wales and the nation.
“This is a pivotal moment for our region,” said Coralie McCarthy, Director of Business Illawarra.
“The roadmap lays the foundation for Illawarra to lead the nation in clean energy innovation, driving economic growth and opportunity across the entire region.”
Be Part of the Future
The official launch event will take place on 9 July 2025 at the Wollongong University Innovation Campus.
“This roadmap is a critical step in aligning our region’s strengths with the demands of a clean energy future,” said Ty Christopher, Director, Energy Futures Network & Innovation and Commercial Research, at the University of Wollongong.
“Through deep collaboration with industry, we’ve mapped out the pathways for Illawarra to lead Australia’s energy transition. We’re excited to see this important work launched and to begin the journey of turning vision into reality.”
The event will bring together leaders from government, industry, and academia. Attendees will gain exclusive insights into the roadmap and hear directly from the experts driving the region’s clean energy transformation.
